Student health and safety

We are committed to ensuring a safe and happy environment for your child.

We support your child’s health and safety through a range of strategies including:

For more information, visit the student wellbeing section of the department’s website.

Like all NSW public schools, we promote the healthy development of students through:

  • school programs and practices that protect and promote health and safety
  • supporting individual students who need help with health issues
  • providing first aid and temporary care of students who become unwell or who have an accident at school.

School community charter

The importance of parent engagement in their children’s education cannot be understated. A productive three way partnership between the teacher, student and parent is the cornerstone of a child’s education. The Department of Education has reinforced these partnerships by developing a School Community Charter that outlines ways to foster these connections. It also sets expectations of parents and teachers in the ways we can respectfully communicate and collaborate.

Student wellbeing

Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.

The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.

The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.

This is the PBL matrix of our school expectations and behaviours. These behaviours are systematically taught and monitored throughout the year:

At Vardys Road, our students have several opportunities for leadership within the school. From Stage 1 onward, classes elect a representative for the student representative council (SRC). The SRC has a significant role in school fundraisers and providing a voice for all students to the larger school community.

Year 5 students have the opportunity to nominate themselves as library monitors, working closely with Mrs Brock to ensure all students can access the library resources.

In Year 6, students have several leadership options before moving on to high school. Students who are passionate about sport can nominate themselves and be voted in as a sport house captain or vice captain and work to encourage their teammates and foster house spirit at sporting events.

Our student leadership team is comprised of 8 prefects, 2 vice captains, and 2 school captains. Their key roles are to provide leadership to the student body and act as role models for their peers. They are an essential part of our Kindergarten to Year 6 assemblies, and special events, as they represent our school and its values to the wider school community.
