Starting Year 7
Starting high school is an exciting milestone and the beginning of a new learning journey. We know that the move from Year 6 to Year 7 can feel both exciting and challenging, which is why we provide a supportive and welcoming transition experience. Through orientation activities, student support programs, and opportunities to build connections with teachers and peers, students quickly feel at home, develop confidence, and begin their high school years with a strong sense of belonging.

What to expect in high school
High school brings new experiences and routines, including:
- a larger school with more subjects, teachers and classrooms
- a timetable with different lessons each day
- moving between classrooms and carrying books and equipment
- more independence and responsibility for homework and study
- new friendships and opportunities to join activities and clubs.
Before your child starts Year 7
Things to Know Before Your Child Starts Year 7 at Seven Hills High School
Enrolment Process and Important Information Before your child begins at Seven Hills High School, families may be asked to attend an enrolment interview with the principal. During this meeting, you can share important details such as:
- Any medical conditions or allergies your child has
- Family circumstances that may influence their start at school
- Learning, wellbeing, or support needs your child may have
Support Services Provided by the School We are committed to supporting all students’ diverse needs. At the enrolment interview, we will explain the various support options available, including:
- Support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through tailored learning pathways
- Assistance for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- Support for students with disabilities or other learning needs via inclusive education programs
Transition program
Seven Hills High School, works closely with Vardys Road Public School to ensure students feel confident, supported, and ready for the transition to high school. The Year 6 to Year 7 transition program provides opportunities for students and families to become familiar with the school, meet staff and students, and experience life at Seven Hills High School.
Activities may include:
- Orientation days and school tours
- Parent information evenings and meet-the-teacher sessions
- Subject tasters and classroom experiences
- Peer support and mentoring activities with senior students
These experiences help students build confidence, develop connections, and gain a strong understanding of high school routines, expectations, and opportunities before they begin Year 7.

Getting ready at home
You can help your child prepare by:
- talking positively about starting high school at Seven Hills High School
- buying uniforms for Seven Hills High, shoes, stationery and school supplies
- checking if a laptop or device is needed
- practising their travel route to Seven Hills High
- making sure they know your phone number and emergency contacts
- encouraging routines such as packing their school bag
- encouraging them to check their timetable and school bell times the night before day 1 of Term 1.
