Starting Kindergarten
Starting primary school is a big step for children and families. Our school runs orientation and transition activities to help your child feel ready for Kindergarten and to support you as parents and carers.
Read the Getting ready for primary school guideΒ for detailed tips and checklists.
Before your child starts Kindergarten
Getting to Know Your Child
Before your child begins Kindergarten, you and your child will meet with our Principal. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know your family and ensure your child has a positive and successful start to school.
During the meeting, we encourage you to share any important information about your child, including:
- Medical conditions, allergies, or health needs
- Learning, developmental, or additional support needs
- Family circumstances that may help us support your child
We want every child to feel safe, supported, valued, and included from their very first day at school.
Kindergarten Orientation and Parent Information Sessions
Our Kindergarten Orientation Program helps children become familiar with their new school environment and build confidence before they start school.
During orientation, children will:
- Meet their teachers and future classmates
- Explore classrooms, playgrounds, and learning spaces
- Practise simple school routines and expectations
Parents and carers are invited to attend information sessions where you will learn about daily routines, school uniforms, lunch arrangements, communication processes, and ways to support your child's learning journey.. If you need an interpreter, let us know.

What to expect in Kindergarten
Learning and development
Kindergarten is an exciting year of learning, growth, and discovery. Children develop early skills in literacy and numeracy while exploring creative arts, science and technology, health, and physical education. Through a mix of structured learning and play-based experiences, children build confidence, independence, and strong social skills.
Daily routines
As children settle into school, they learn important routines such as arriving at school, managing snack and lunch times, lining up, and playing safely in the playground. Our teachers provide plenty of support, and practising simple routines at home can help make the transition even smoother.
Best Start Assessment
At the beginning of the year, all Kindergarten students take part in the Best Start Assessment. This friendly, one-on-one activity helps teachers understand your child's literacy and numeracy skills so we can support their learning from day one. It is not a test, and no preparation is needed.
What the Kinders have to Say!
Our Kindergarten students have been busy reflecting on all the wonderful experiences that make school such a special place to learn, grow and have fun!
From exciting excursions and creative art activities to delicious lunch orders and spending time with friends, our students had plenty to share about what they love most about Kindy.
π The Best Thing About Kindy Is... π
π Jayden loves "eating and getting lunch orders."
π Matthew enjoys our exciting excursions and especially loved seeing cows and chicks.
π¨ Molly loves drawing and creating beautiful artwork.
These reflections remind us that learning is about so much more than the classroom. Every day brings new opportunities for discovery, creativity, friendship and fun.
We are so proud of our Kindergarten students and the enthusiasm they bring to school each day. Thank you, Jayden, Matthew and Molly, for sharing what makes Kindy such a wonderful experience!
We can't wait to hear what our students love next!
