Support that fits your child's needs
At Vardys Road Public School, we believe that every student should feel confident, included, and ready to learn. We’re committed to supporting students with disability and additional learning needs so they can fully participate in all aspects of school life.
Personalised Support for Your Child
We understand that some students may need extra help to thrive at school. Our team works closely with families to design support plans and adjustments tailored to each child’s individual strengths and needs.
Support may include:
- Collaboration with families – Teachers and support staff working closely with parents/carers (and students, where appropriate).
- Specialist help for English language learners – Support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D).
- Extension programs for high potential and gifted students – Opportunities that challenge and extend learning.
- Small group tutoring – Targeted literacy and numeracy support to build confidence and skills.
- Ongoing check-ins – Regular reviews to monitor progress and update plans as needed.
Classroom and Learning Adjustments
We make adjustments in the classroom to support access to learning. These may include:
-
Accessible classrooms
-
Assistive technology and resources
-
Modified content or teaching approaches
-
Flexible assessments, such as:
- Extra time
- Simplified instructions
- Breaks during tasks
- Alternative formats (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks)
How We Identify Support Needs
We identify when a student may need support through:
- Observations from teachers about learning or behaviour changes
- Reviewing student progress and assessment data
- Conversations with parents or carers who share concerns
Any adjustments or support plans are made in collaboration with families and are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain effective.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
